Thousands Rally in Washington Demanding End to Executions and Support for Democratic Change in Iran

Thousands of Iranian Americans and supporters of democracy gathered in Washington, D.C. for a major “Free Iran” rally calling for an end to political executions and growing repression inside Iran. Demonstrators marched near Capitol Hill carrying Iranian flags and banners demanding freedom, human rights, and international action against the Iranian regime.

Organizers said the demonstration was held in response to the increasing number of executions of political prisoners and protesters following the nationwide unrest that swept Iran earlier this year. Human rights organizations have reported a surge in death sentences, arrests, and crackdowns on dissidents, activists, and members of the main Iranian opposition movement.

Participants at the rally urged Western governments and international institutions to take stronger measures against Tehran’s human rights abuses. Protesters called for immediate intervention to stop executions and to support the Iranian people’s demand for a democratic and secular republic.

Large crowds marched through Washington holding signs reading “Stop Executions in Iran” and “Free Political Prisoners.” Chants demanding regime change and justice for victims of repression echoed through the streets surrounding the U.S. Capitol.

Speakers at the rally included former officials, activists, and members of the Iranian diaspora who described the current Iranian government as increasingly isolated and dependent on repression to maintain power. Retired U.S. General Wesley Clark told the crowd that the regime was “crumbling under fear” and praised the courage of Iranian protesters resisting authoritarian rule.

The demonstration also highlighted concerns over internet shutdowns, mass arrests, and reports of torture inside Iranian prisons. Human rights advocates warned that executions are being used to silence dissent and intimidate society after months of anti-government protests.

Many demonstrators expressed support for the Iranian opposition and its vision for democratic change. Protest organizers emphasized that the Iranian people reject both dictatorship and political repression, calling instead for freedom, equality, and democratic governance.

The Washington rally reflected growing international attention on Iran’s human rights situation as reports continue to emerge about executions of protesters, harsh prison conditions, and persecution of dissidents. Activists said global solidarity is essential to amplify the voices of people inside Iran who continue to risk their lives demanding change.
