Irish Senate Majority Supports NCRI, Urges Terrorist Designation for IRGC

In a significant development, 32 of the 60 senators in the Republic of Ireland, representing major parties Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil, and Labor, as well as independent senators, have expressed strong support for the Iranian Resistance and the Iranian people’s struggle against the clerical regime. They specifically targeted the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), urging its designation as a terrorist organization due to its role in domestic repression and global terrorism.

The Irish senators called on their government and the European Union to endorse the Ten-Point Plan of Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI). This plan advocates for a democratic republic based on the separation of religion and state, and gender equality. They condemned the Iranian regime’s oppression of dissidents in Ashraf-3, Albania, emphasizing their rights under the Geneva Convention and the European Convention on Human Rights.

Acknowledging that the Iranian regime has eliminated peaceful avenues for change, the senators urged global recognition of the Iranian people’s right to resist the IRGC. They denounced the regime’s destructive role in the Middle East and its warmongering policies, calling for oil sanctions and the IRGC’s terrorist designation.

Among the signatories are three current and former Irish Senate leaders, five former ministers, heads of key Senate committees, and notable political figures including Seán Canney, Minister of State from 2016 to 2020, and former Senate presidents from 2011 to 2020.
