Dear Supporters,
I hope this message finds you well. Please see an invitation letter for the major conference in Church House on Saturday 11th of October between 1-3pm. Your presence is important, and all the Iranian community will be delighted to see you.
The conference is on Saturday, 11 October 2025, marking the World Day Against the Death Penalty. This event will focus on urgent efforts to save the lives of political prisoners in Iran who face imminent execution.
In recent months, dozens of political prisoners have been sentenced to death—18 of whom are at immediate risk—solely for their steadfast refusal to renounce support for the democratic opposition.
As you know, on 7 July, the regime’s Revolutionary Guards openly defended the 1988 massacre of some 30,000 political prisoners in an editorial published by Fars News, describing it as a “successful historical experience.” In the editorial, entitled: “Why Should the 1988 Executions Be Repeated?”, they called for similar brutal measures against current-day protesters and activists. Fearing renewed nationwide protests reminiscent of 2022, the regime has already commenced executions, beginning with activists Mehdi Hassani and Behrouz Ehsani on 27 July. This week, the UN Special Rapporteur on Iran announced that there have been more than 1000 executions in Iran in 2025 so far, and that executions are currently taking place at a pace of 9 every day.
Amnesty International has begun a campaign seeking to save the lives of the political prisoners at imminent risk of execution:

Given your long standing support for the cause of human rights and justice in Iran, your presence and voice at this conference would be invaluable. Our intention is to raise international attention for urgent action to save the lives of Iran’s brave political prisoners on death row and to prevent the 1988 massacre from repeating.
I could, of course, send you a brief with the latest updates on the human rights situation in Iran in advance of the conference.
The event will take place in Church House in central London and begin at 1-3pm. I would be very grateful if you could mark it in your calendar and kindly confirm that you could attend (reply to this message or email davidafrash.academicssociety@gmail.com to confirm that you could attend). Your presence will make a big difference.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
With gratitude and solidarity,
David Afrash
