The NCRI Women’s Committee issues a strong call to action to the women and men of Iran, urging them to resist the alarming escalation of repression targeting women within the oppressive regime of the mullahs, orchestrated by Ali Khamenei.
As the regime faces mounting challenges from all fronts, Ali Khamenei has increasingly turned to repression and suppression as a means of maintaining control. In his recent Eid al-Fitr sermon on April 10, Khamenei issued a stern warning to regime apparatuses, agents, and officials, emphasizing the need to crack down on what he termed as “religious norm-breaking.” This directive places women squarely in the crosshairs of the regime’s intensified crackdown.
Following Khamenei’s decree, Ahmad Radan, commander of the regime’s State Security Force (SSF), announced via state media that individuals not adhering to the compulsory hijab would be targeted using smart surveillance devices starting from April 13. Punishments for non-compliance include warnings, court referrals, impoundment of vehicles, and even closure of businesses.
In response to these draconian measures, SSF commands across Tehran and other provinces have ramped up enforcement of hijab and chastity regulations in public spaces, signaling a heightened level of repression directed at women.
The NCRI Women’s Committee (WNCRI) issues a resolute call to Iranian women and men to resist this new wave of repression imposed by the misogynistic regime. We urge Iranians to stand firm against these oppressive measures and to defend the rights of women to autonomy and freedom of expression.
Furthermore, we call upon international bodies, particularly the UN Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women, to condemn the compulsory hijab and other misogynistic actions perpetrated by the mullahs’ regime. It is imperative that the international community stands in solidarity with the women of Iran as they courageously resist oppression and demand their fundamental rights.
In the face of escalating repression, the resilience and determination of Iranian women serve as a beacon of hope, inspiring others to join the struggle for freedom, equality, and justice. The NCRI Women’s Committee stands in solidarity with Iranian women in their quest for dignity, freedom, and gender equality, and we call upon the global community to stand with them in this critical moment.
