Icelandic Parliamentarians Unite in Support of Iranian Freedom and Democracy

A significant majority of Icelandic parliamentarians have joined a global campaign supporting Iranian freedom and democracy by endorsing the statement titled “Supporting Freedom and Resistance in Iran for Global Peace and Security.” This move demonstrates their solidarity with the Iranian people and their resistance against oppression.

The statement has been signed by 33 members of the Icelandic Parliament (Althingi), including four committee chairs, four vice-chairs, and six members of the Foreign Affairs Committee. Among the signatories are two parliamentary party leaders and three former ministers, showcasing broad support across Iceland’s political spectrum.

The Althingi, one of the oldest parliaments globally, has condemned the brutal suppression of the Iranian people, including ethnic and religious minorities, and the violence against women in prisons. The statement emphasizes that while women are the primary victims of the misogynistic regime, they also play leadership roles in the Iranian resistance.

The Icelandic MPs call on all governments to support Maryam Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan for a democratic republic in Iran, which advocates for the separation of religion and state and gender equality, ensuring a democratic system for the Iranian people.

The parliamentarians have condemned the recent sham trials against the Iranian resistance leadership, viewing these trials as pretexts for justifying terrorist acts against dissidents, particularly in Europe. The statement stresses the need for accountability for the 1988 massacre and ongoing crimes against humanity, recognizing the right of the Iranian people and the Resistance Units to oppose the IRGC.

The Icelandic parliamentarians highlight the destructive role of the Iranian regime in the Middle East and the necessity of designating the IRGC as a terrorist organization. They urge the international community to take decisive action to support the Iranian people’s struggle for freedom and democracy.
