Escalating Wave of Executions Raises Concerns of Popular Uprising

In a disturbing trend, the Iranian regime, led by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, has intensified its wave of mass executions, executing at least 30 prisoners in the past five days. This surge in executions is believed to be fueled by the regime’s fear of an impending uprising among the people.

On December 31, the last day of the Gregorian calendar, seven prisoners, including Shir Ahmad Sanjrani and five others in Birjand Central Prison, along with Noor Ahmad Qalandarzehi in Shiraz Central Prison, were hanged by the executioners. Abdul Shavali met the same fate in Qezelhessar Prison on December 30.

The regime’s judiciary news agency reported on December 29 that four prisoners in Urmia Prison, namely Wafa Hanareh, Aram Omari, Rahman Parhazu, and Nasim Namazi, were executed on charges of spying for Israel. The executions were carried out hastily, accompanied by forced confessions, in retaliation for the killing of IRGC Brigadier General Reza Mousavi in Syria. Asger Abdullah Parikhani was also executed in Meshkinshahr Prison on the same day.

December 28 witnessed multiple executions, including a public hanging in Najafabad. Karim Emami Khah in Bandar Abbas Central Prison, Hassan Rahbar in Gorgan Central Prison, Reza Eeyvazi in Kashan Prison, and another prisoner in Yazd Central Prison were among those executed. The preceding day, December 27, saw 12 prisoners executed in Birjand, Hamadan, and Qezelhessar.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the elected president of the Iranian Resistance, decried this unprecedented record of cruelty and crime. She emphasized that international silence, inaction, and appeasement toward the religious fascism in Iran, sustained by domestic oppression and international terrorism, have emboldened the regime to escalate its atrocities, posing a significant threat to peace and security in the region and the world. The executions are perceived as a desperate attempt by the regime to quell potential opposition and tighten its grip on power.
