Robert Ward, a Conservative councillor from Croydon, London, has issued a strong appeal for international action to stop the Iranian regime’s escalating wave of political executions, while also encouraging support for the major international gathering scheduled to take place in Paris on 20 June.
Speaking about the worsening human rights situation in Iran, Councillor Ward warned that the regime is increasingly using executions, arbitrary arrests, and repression to silence dissent and intimidate those who seek democratic change. He expressed particular concern for political prisoners, young protesters, women, and supporters of the democratic Iranian opposition who face severe persecution and, in many cases, the threat of execution.
Ward stressed that the struggle of the Iranian people for freedom and democracy deserves the support of democratic nations around the world. He argued that the international community must not remain silent while innocent men and women are sentenced to death following unfair trials, forced confessions, and the denial of basic legal rights.
A key focus of his remarks was the international gathering for a free Iran that will be held in Paris on 20 June. Councillor Ward noted that the event is expected to attract more than 100,000 participants from across Europe and beyond, making it one of the largest demonstrations in support of democracy and human rights in Iran.
He emphasized that a significant number of British elected representatives are expected to attend, including parliamentarians, members of legislative assemblies, and local councillors from across the United Kingdom. Ward himself will be among those travelling to Paris to demonstrate solidarity with the Iranian people and to call for an end to executions and repression.
According to Ward, the gathering will send a powerful message that the Iranian people are not alone and that democratic voices across the world stand with those seeking freedom, justice, and human rights. He described the event as an opportunity for lawmakers, councillors, human rights advocates, and members of the public to unite behind the principles of democracy and accountability.
The Croydon councillor also highlighted the courage of political prisoners and their families, many of whom continue to resist despite facing imprisonment, torture, and the threat of execution. Their determination, he said, reflects the aspirations of millions of Iranians who seek a democratic republic based on freedom, equality, and the rule of law.
Ward concluded by urging democratic governments to increase pressure on Tehran, support international investigations into human rights abuses, and hold those responsible for crimes against humanity accountable. He reiterated that the growing international support for the Paris gathering demonstrates that concern for the Iranian people extends far beyond Iran’s borders.
As the 20 June rally approaches, Councillor Ward’s message is clear: the world must stand with the Iranian people, oppose political executions, and support their struggle for a free and democratic future.
